What better way to spend a summer afternoon than with a nicely prepared picnic hamper and good friends. Whether a quick picnic prepared for a simple seaside jaunt, or an elaborate spread prepared for enjoying on the sidelines of your favorite polo team's club grounds, we'll lay out some great ideas for maximum enjoyment in true Land Rover style.
The type of sporting events which tend to appeal to many Land Rover owners such as polo or cricket call for more-refined styles of tailgating. We're certainly not talking the rough-and-ready tailgating seen at football stadiums across America. Even as far back as the 1980's Land Rover owners demanded a more refined tailgating experience as evidenced by the development of the 1981 Range Rover In Vogue model limited-edition which came fully-equipped with a custom picnic hamper!
As Matt Cuthbert writing for Al.com put it, "Tailgating is a fabulous ritual and the ultimate classic moveable feast. It is the traditional style of entertaining which makes a perfect party for both pre- and post-sporting events, often taken perhaps to its utmost elegance and pinnacle at a posh polo match.
The key to terrific tailgating involves entertaining that is simple yet sumptuous, allowing everyone to enjoy the affair, the fare and the company to the fullest. Pack a big basket with all the essentials. Delectable, portable food is an all-important ingredient, along with lavish liquid refreshment. A spacious, plush, preferably plaid, blanket or tablecloth is dandy to drape the tailgate or for additional seating. And, throw in a couple of plump pillows or good folding chairs as well. A card table may also come in handy, covered with an attractive cloth to create or expand your serving space.
Then, to make the tailgating ultra chic, upgrade from the flimsy, standard disposables to more refined, reusable items including china, cutlery and stemware. Cloth napkins also add an extra tasteful touch.
Flowers and local foliage or another festive seasonal arrangement will finish off your feast with flair."
