MAHWAH, NJ, April 4, 2011 - Land Rover employees at the company's Halewood manufacturing plant in the United Kingdom are celebrating a milestone achievement – the production of the 250,000th Land Rover Freelander 2, which is sold as the Land Rover LR2 in the United States.
Production of the Land Rover LR2/Freelander 2 began in 2007. The plant's 250,000th Land Rover LR2/Freelander 2 – a 2.2-liter TD4 Diesel GS in Fuji White – was driven off the line on March 28th 2011. The vehicle is destined for a customer who lives in Scotland.
Land Rover is also celebrating a growing demand for the Land Rover LR2/Freelander 2, as retail sales for the model are up 22% globally (Apr 2010 – Feb 2011) compared with the same 11 month period in 2009/2010.
Halewood Operations Director Richard Else commented, "This milestone achievement and the increasing sales for the Land Rover Freelander 2 (LR2) highlight just how important this vehicle is, not just to Halewood, but also for the regional and UK economy – around 70% of Land Rover Freelander (LR2) models produced at Halewood are exported overseas. I'd like to thank our flexible and highly skilled workforce and congratulate the Halewood team on this superb achievement."
In the United States, the 2011 Land Rover LR2 is equipped with standard 4WD and a refined 3.2-liter, 230 HP inline six-cylinder engine. With exceptional on-road and off-road performance, featuring Terrain Response, the MSRP for the Land Rover LR2 is $36,550*.
