Not only did Land Rover celebrate the 40^th anniversary of the Range Rover last week while unveiling its newest, smallest, lightest, greenest Range Rover yet, the Special Edition Range Rover Evoque, but Land Rover executives had also announced an important upcoming milestone for Range Rover.

This summer the Range Rover will roll its millionth vehicle off the assembly line.

Brainchild of the late Spen King, the Range Rover line hit the SUV scene in 1970.  It's groundbreaking design, which morphed luxury with unparalleled off-road capability, was truly amazing as was its reception by automotive commentators and the general public alike.  It only hit American dealerships in 1987, still nearly two decades after its initial launch, the Range Rover was an immediate success in the US market.

So unique was the Range Rover that, to this day, it is still the only vehicle ever put on display as a fine work of design art by the curators at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
