In match three of their 2010 season, Colts Neck Polo's Team Land Rover Monmouth dominated the visiting team, La Valentina, and easily won 6-3 in a match whose play was described by both spectators and more than a few players as "sluggish."
The visiting team, made up of student polo players, combined with high temps---hovering around 90---and some mount problems, all combined to make for some challenging, if somewhat sluggish play.
During the second chukker there was a scare when CNP-LRM team captain, Matias Loyola, was knocked from his mount after, apparently, having been struck by the ball which then ricocheted and struck him again causing his mount to rear-up and knocking Loyola to the ground. After a few minutes, play resumed and was re-joined by the unhurt Loyola.
After the ponies were put up, the players and members of the Colts Neck Polo Club enjoyed one another's company in a post-match dinner on the sidelines following the presentation of Tiffany trophies to the winners. |
